Managing backups and keeping your server data under control is an important part of maintaining a reliable VoIP system. With the latest VSM4 update, we have introduced new automation features that make both tasks easier to configure and manage directly from VSM4.
Scheduled Automated Backups
VSM4 now allows administrators to configure a scheduled backup that runs automatically at a selected time every day. The backup can be scheduled for a time when the server is normally under low traffic or has no active calls, for example during the night. This helps reduce the potential impact of the backup process on normal system operation.
The administrator can define the location where the backup should be stored and configure the schedule according to the server’s operating conditions.
Once configured, VSM4 will automatically run the backup every day at the selected time without requiring manual intervention.

Backup Notifications
To make it easier to monitor scheduled backups, VSM4 also provides email notifications. An email address can be configured to receive a notification after each backup attempt. The notification informs the administrator whether the backup was completed successfully or whether the backup process failed.
This provides an additional way to monitor the backup process without having to check the server manually.
Automated Data Cleanup
In addition to scheduled backups, VSM4 now includes automated data retention management.
Administrators can configure retention periods for:
- Failed calls
- Calls
- Recordings
For each type of data, the administrator can specify the number of days for which the data should be retained.
For example, if the retention period for failed calls is set to 90 days, VSM4 will automatically remove failed calls that are older than 90 days while keeping all failed calls from the previous 90 days.
The cleanup process can be scheduled to run automatically at a selected time, such as 3:00 AM, when the server is expected to have little or no active traffic.
This allows older data to be removed regularly without requiring administrators to perform manual cleanup.

One Place to Manage Backup and Retention
With these new VSM4 features, administrators can automate two important maintenance tasks: Backup – Schedule daily backups, select the backup location and receive email notifications about the result. Retention – Define how long failed calls, calls and recordings should be kept and let VSM4 automatically remove older data. Backup before cleanup – Create a backup before retention rules are applied for additional data protection.
These features help reduce the amount of manual server maintenance required while giving administrators greater control over backups, storage and data retention. With VSM4, backup and data cleanup can now be configured once and then handled automatically according to the administrator’s schedule and retention requirements.
